For weeks now I have been promising Connor I would go into the woods behind our house and visit his island. The kids love to disappear out there for hours every chance they get, so I figured I would see what all the fuss was about. I have gone into the woods just briefly, but not far. There was always something better to do, like cleaning a room, doing some laundry, making a meal. ( Rolling eyes) Silly me.
I had no idea how enchanting it was out there. The kids had spring break this last week and we just had so much fun. We did lots of art projects and started a quilt that they are embroidering a picture they drew, and they will sew all their blocks together themselves. It was such a calm, fun, creative week. (Except for Thursday...I will blog on that later.)
So Friday, I packed a picnic, put the baby in a sling, and we headed out to go to Connor's Island. It was 80 degrees, but not humid. Just right.
Little Connor was such a gentleman. He made sure that I was looked after when we came to an area that I could slip or that was trecherous with the baby. I was amazed at his forethought and ability to see beyond himself at such a tender age. He turned back and handed me his sweet little hand on many occasions. Chloe wasn't left out of the chivalrous acts either. He was the "man" of the group he kept saying :) and he took such good care of his women.
It got so quiet as we got further and further from home. We got there and to my astonishment, it really was an island. I set up our blanket and before I could get that done, the kids were in the stream trying to catch polly-wogs. We had our picnic surrounded by nature, making up stories of who must of roamed there before us, and listening to the choir of birds singing. Escaping the suburbs for the day was just what our souls needed.
Magical was the only way to describe that day. I could have stayed all day, but little Anna needed a nap after a few hours, but I know many trips will be made back to our island. A flag is in the works at this very moment to officially mark it Connor's Island. Pics to follow.
Also-make sure your speakers are on, the song for this post is one of my favorites, and goes so well with this post.(Return to Pooh Corner) It is just a sweet song...enjoy.
